ABOUT NALANDA
Nālandā means ‘giver of knowledge’ and was once a thriving monastic University in the ancient kingdom of Magadha (modern-day Bihar) in India, and is considered one of the first great universities in recorded history.

At Nālandā you will find an open-air shala, the place boasts a lush garden with temple sights, high-ceiling wooden-floored consecrated studio space with wood carved details, a jungle view and river access.
The compound is made of an open-air shala that can accommodate up to 50 students, equipped with all the necessary things for a practice: mats, props, blankets and teaching support projector, writing board.
We are located in the Penestanan area, surrounded by nature and minutes away from the main roads and cafes and villas.

Where to find the yoga center Nalanda Ubud
Nalanda School is located in Penestanan, which used to be a neighboring village of Ubud but has now become a part of the small town. You will find us in a calm area of Penestanan Kelod. Several restaurants and warungs (little Balinese restaurants) are in our close vicinity. Also, many villas for short-term rent, homestays and small hotels can be found nearby. We encourage you to take on a daily yoga practice and therefore to book an accommodation close to Nalanda School.

If you choose to stay near to Nalanda School, you have a great starting position to see beautiful nature, museums, and of course the center of Ubud with the market and the Kings Palace.
Enjoy Ubuds nature
Tjampuhan Ridge is a scenic hiking trek through rice fields that can be accessed directly from Jalan Raya Ubud. You can reach the hiking trek in only 15 minutes by foot from Nalanda School. Also, Bali Bird Walks start quite close to Nalanda School Ubud. The meeting point is in Jalan Raya Ubud before Murnis warung, in 15 min. walking distance only.
Visit some Ubuds sights
To reach the Ubud market for souvenirs, it takes approximately a 25-minute walk from our location to the center of Ubud. On the way there you pass museum Puri Lukisan. This fine art museum with old traditional Balinese paintings and artefacts is worth a visit. The Kings Palace is located across from the market in the heart of Ubud. After exploring the bustling market, you can enjoy a change of scenery and admire the old architecture of the palace.
Groceries in Penestanan, Ubud
If you need groceries, you can easily access the large Bintang supermarket, where you can find practically everything you need. Moreover, if you prefer fixed prices and are not keen on bargaining at the Ubud market, you can also purchase souvenirs at Bintang.
